The Elgin Works is an incubator for new ideas at the intersection of manufacturing and the internet.
We're an operating small batch manufacturer. We can make your small manufacturing operation more efficient, or complete your service project. With our highly computerized equipment, we can make one or dozens or a thousand of something
We also make and sell our own products, servicing mainly hobby and craft markets. These products are marketed under various brand names suitable for the individual markets.
We're starting to move into the emerging field of social robotics.
While each job is different, we understand your need for a budgetary estimate. These are examples of products we've made, with costs.
Single piece jobs are usually dominated by labor costs, rather than machine time.
Our specialty is laser engraving.
Laser cut parts are an economical alternative to other flat sheet construction methods
We can produce small wood products
We are not primarily a machine shop, but we produce a few metal parts
Do you have an idea for a new product, but aren't sure how to manufacture it? Are you making a custom product and having trouble making part of it? Do you need a part decoratively engraved, or do you need a box?
Order one of our sample kits. It's filled with ideas and samples.

We're a new firm with a long history.
Smoke-Wood was an engraving and awards company operated by Albert Smolkowski from a 3500 square foot facility located at 1680 Division in Elgin, Oregon. Smoke-Wood made engraved awards, and sold blank award plaques and a laser coloring agent, 'LazerDARC'
Now Kevin Smolkowski, Al's son (Al died in 2013) has partnered with Anne (Annie) Ogborn. Annie is a software engineer and social roboticist. Together they're reinventing Smoke-Wood as The Elgin Works.
For now they're making small items. In the future they want to move into the field of social robotics.
